git blameless

What if there was a “git blameless” command that gave each author a forgiving pseudonym? 😅 $ git blameless main.tf 5ed5fcab (well_intentioned_individual 2021-11-17 21:53:27 -0800 1) resource "aws_autoscaling_group" "example" { e3e56dcd (no_time_to_do_this_the_right_way 2022-12-31 13:01:54 -0800 7) key = tag.key 27096f14 (still_learning 2022-02-18 18:10:06 -0800 8) for_each = {

Rouse

What is a single grain of rice called? After searching online for 10 seconds, I was unable to find an answer, so my wife has coined a new word: “rouse”. Mice : mouse :: rice : rouse.

IN DEN WOLKEN!

I’ve never been on a cruise, but if I ever do go on one, I hope it’s just like the one in the movie “Triangle of Sadness”. What a fantastic movie! Go watch it!

Google Maps, I am Disappoint

I’ve been using Google Maps for years to keep lists. I have hundreds of places in my “Favorites” and “Want to go” lists. Google is the world’s most popular search engine - their whole thing is search - and yet, I can’t search my lists. If I want to see all the coffee shops in my “Want to go” list, I can’t. If I only want to see my favorite places in Austin, I can’t....

Prepper Beans

Whenever I go to Costco I like to buy a big box of canned refried beans. I like the idea of being a “prepper” - being prepared for an apocalypse - but I’m lazy, so I just buy beans. I could eat refried beans forever. I love them. When the world ends, come to my house and have some beans with me.

Lavamoat

If you’re a JavaScript developer, you should check out Lavamoat! It’s a “set of tools for securing JavaScript projects against a category of attacks called software supply chain attacks.” Essentially it provides the developer with autogenerated policy, and compartmentalizes objects - stripping them of the ambient authority to access disk, network, environment, and other resources. It seems awesome! There’s a good talk about it here.

Drop www

I 100% agree with https://dropwww.com/why. TL;DR: the “www.” prefix is completely unnecessary, adds 10 syllables when you speak the URL, takes longer to type, uses up more space in the address bar, etc. Also, as a DevSecOps Engineer, I just don’t want to manage extra endpoints, certificates, forwarding, and DNS records for the extra “www.” URL.

Tech Monopolies

Step 1: Watch Tech Monopolies: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) Step 2: Use EFF’s Action Center to contact your representatives about the Open App Markets Act Step 3: Use democracy.io to write to your reps about the “American Choice and Innovation Online Act”. For example: Subject: American Choice and Innovation Online Act As your constituent, I urge you to support the American Choice and Innovation Online Act (S.2992). The legislation aims to prevent Big Tech companies from “self-preferencing” their own products at the expense of competitors....
